Week 8 in 5I

5I have had a busy week...in English we have continued our module on ‘Suspense and
Mystery Writing’ and this week we have been looking at a short animation called “Alma”,
where we have been focusing on the key features of suspense writing, by having a go
at writing our own alternative endings to ‘Alma’.

During Maths this week we have been studying square and cube numbers, along
with multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000. The children even
made their own Square Number Towers.

Across Year 5 this week we have been working on a collaborative art project,
focusing on ‘Black History Month’ which is celebrated annually worldwide.
This links well to our CCS topic of influential people, as well as covering the
stereotypes surrounding race and equality. Each group was given a photo of an
influential black person which was cut up into quarters and individually they had
to draw and then paint whatever their quarter showed, before placing them back
together to see the finished article. It was a lovely opportunity to get all of Year 5
working together and is something the children thoroughly enjoyed.

5I have also has some busy members this week...with lots of dance rehearsals
for the Merit Making ceremony, as well as both the U11 boys and girls teams
having Basketball matches. We are all very proud of their achievements.

With it being half term next week, it is a perfect opportunity for the children to
recuperate and rest up ready for the second half of the autumn term. We look
forward to seeing you all back on Monday 21st October!
