Week Four in Year 5

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

What a week it has been! A highlight of this week has been our Settling In Meetings with parents. It has been wonderful to meet together to let you know how the students have been progressing and to discuss their targets and next steps at school.

In CCS this week, we have really enjoyed seeing the students start their presentations about influential people. We have been impressed with the confidence and fluency of their speaking skills. It is clear that the students are enjoying this topic and finding out lots about people who have changed our world.

Science has been hands-on this week as we have enjoyed building electrical circuits. We compared different conductors to see which would make the bulbs shine the brightest.

In English, we have examined a range of discussion texts, identifying the main features and arguments.

Maths has seen us begin our Addition and Subtraction topic. We've got to grips with the column method and used our skills to solve different problems.

We've also practised our drawing skills by finishing off our Round Square 'Self-Awareness' portraits. We sketched a self-portrait and put words to describe ourselves around the outside.

Wow - presentations, science experiments, debates, problem-solving and art...no wonder we all need a rest this weekend!

Reminders for next week:
Please check the email about Parents' Week next week. We are looking forward to welcoming you into our classrooms.

See you all on Monday,
The Year 5 Team.
